Chelsea, West Ham interested in Nigerian striker who scored twice against Barcelona in 2023-24
Published: May 27, 2024Chelsea have reportedly joined West Ham in the race to join Spanish-born Nigerian striker Samuel Omorodion, who had a decent loan spell with Deportivo Alavés in the just concluded La Liga campaign.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, the six-time English champions are set to explore a deal for the Atletico Madrid-owned forward.
Chelsea ownership seemingly have a policy of signing the best youngsters around the world and are always in the mix of signing bright prospects with Omorodion reportedly being the latest to have caught their attention.
The Spanish youth international was one of the breakout stars in the Spanish topflight this season, scoring eight goals and providing one assist to help Alavés to a 10th place finish and ended the campaign as the club's top scorer.
He broke the record for the earliest goal conceded by Barcelona at home and also scored another against them in the reverse fixture which won the La Liga EA Sports Best Play Award for February.
Omorodion has been recognized as one of the most talented players in European football as he is in the running for the 2024 Golden Boy Award alongside Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, Italian-Nigerian fullback Michael Kayode and Lagos-born striker George Ilenikhena.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly open to selling the 20-year-old after just a year of his arrival and have set a €60 million transfer price on him.
