London-born Brighton & Hove defender open to representing Super Eagles
Published: May 24, 2024Brighton & Hove defender Odel Offiah has expressed his willingness to commit his international future to Nigeria, despite being eligible to represent England, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 21-year-old right-back, born in London to Nigerian parents, is open to following in the footsteps of other English-born players who have chosen to represent the Super Eagles.
Offiah's recent impressive performance in Brighton's recent 4-0 loss to Manchester City caught the eye of manager Roberto de Zerbi, who introduced him at the start of the second half of that particular game.
Despite the defeat, Offiah's display was a silver lining for the Seagulls, and could retain his place in the first team ahead of next season.
With six career appearances in the Premier League, and still developing his skills at the club's youth system, his abilities and traits could provide a significant boost to the Nigeria national team, which is seeking to strengthen its backline with talented players from around the world.
If Offiah's willingness to represent Nigeria comes to a reality, he would follow a trend of Anglo-Nigerian players choosing to play for the Super Eagles.
Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi, and Bright Osayi-Samuel have all made the switch.
As Offiah continues to develop his skills and gain more experience in the Premier League, his openness to represent Nigeria could be a significant coup for the Super Eagles.
With his talent and dedication, he has the potential to become a valuable asset for the national team.
