EFL new boys Chesterfield on brink of deal for Arsenal youth product Tim Akinola
Published: May 16, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that National League champions Chesterfield are on the brink of announcing the capture of Arsenal youth product Tim Akinola.
The 2022 Nigeria Olympic national team invitee has already agreed a two-year deal with the English Football League new boys and The Spireites intend to confirm the signing of the promising midfielder in the coming days, if not hours.
Akinola is making a return to English football, less than a year after he left the Emirates Stadium to join Qatargas League club Al Bidda SC.
This year, he was heavily linked with possible moves to Czech First League club MFK Karviná, Portuguese setup C.F. Estrela da Amadora, National League side Hartlepool United, and Finnish Veikkausliiga team SJK Seinäjoki.
Clubs from Saudi Arabia and Qatar also considered signing the former Huddersfield Town and Lincoln City youth player, but he opted for a return to Europe as his top priority.
Akinola is set to join Chesterfield as a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with Al Bidda SC.
Barring any last-minute development, the 23-year-old is returning for a second stint at Chesterfield whom he represented during the 2022-2023 season on loan from Premier League club Arsenal.
Akinola made thirty-one appearances in all competitions during his first spell at Chesterfield, helping them qualify for the National League playoffs.
His transfer to Chesterfield is subject to him passing a medical examination.
