Goztepe chief open to transfers with Southampton amid links with Paul Onuachu
Published: May 14, 2024Goztepe president Rasmus Ankersen has revealed that there may be transfers between the newly promoted Super Lig club and Southampton amid speculation linking Paul Onuachu with a potential move to Göz Göz in the summer transfer window.
According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, Ankersen announced at the press conference he held last week that possible transfers from Southampton depend on the compliance of the conditions of the clubs, technical staff and players.
Goztepe will be competing in the Super Lig in 2024-2025 by virtue of finishing second in the First League table and they have started working on foreign transfers, with Onuachu on top of their wishlist.
The future of the Southampton-owned player has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks with his loan deal at Trabzonspor set to expire in the coming weeks.
Having struggled at the Saints following his transfer from Racing Genk in January 2023, Onuachu has enjoyed a new lease of life at Trabzonspor, contributing to eighteen goals (14 goals, 4 assists) in twenty outings in the Turkish top flight.
Trabzonspor are keen on signing Onuachu on a permanent deal but are struggling to meet the player's asking price.
Goztepe chief Rasmus Ankersen has close ties to the Super Eagles striker as he was previously chairman of the board of Danish club FC Midtjylland, where the Nigerian played for seven seasons before moving to Genk.
Onuachu initially started his career in Denmark with Midtjylland's academy and scored 74 goals across 181 appearances for the senior team.
He has a contract with Southampton until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
