Official: Sheffield Wednesday make contract decisions on three Nigerians starlets
Published: May 13, 2024Through their official website, Sheffield Wednesday have announced their retained and released list for the academy teams following the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season, with contract decisions made on three Nigerian players.
The Owls have confirmed that Gabriel Otegbayo has been offered a new contract while the club has exercised the option to extend Favour Onukwuli's contract.
Adam Alimi-Adetoro is among the four U21 players who have been released with effect from July 1, 2024.
Imposing center-back Otegbayo officially joined Sheffield Wednesday in March 2024 following a successful trial.
Onukwuli linked up with the Sheffield Wednesday academy from the Volenti Academy in London in January 2023.
A winger by trade, he has been described as a quick wide player who can go past people.
Central defender Adam Alimi-Adetoro completed his transfer to the Owls in August 2022 following a successful trial.
The 23-year-old previously represented Athlone Town in his country of brith Republic of Ireland before landing in Sheffield.
He received six call-ups for first team matches as a Sheffield Wednesday player and his only senior appearance came against Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup in February 2023.
The Hillsborough Stadium outfit have yet to announce their retained list for the first team.
