'Really annoying' - Bologna defender Calafiori on his duel with Napoli striker Osimhen
Published: May 12, 2024Bologna are on the brink of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League after a 2-0 win over Napoli at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday evening.
One of the key matchups during the game saw Bologna central defender Riccardo Calafiori face off with one of the best strikers in the Italian Serie A, Victor Osimhen.
The Italy U21 international passed the test with flying colours, limiting the Napoli number 9 to one shot on target from the two he attempted.
Osimhen managed 30 touches throughout the duration of the game, the lowest number recorded by a Napoli starter with the exception of goalkeeper Alex Meret.
Bologna had a good start to the game as Dan Ndoye broke the deadlock inside ten minutes after a delivery from Jens Odgaard.
In the 12th minute, Stefan Posch steered in a header to double the advantage.
Napoli wasted the chance to halve the deficit in the 21st minute when Matteo Politano failed to convert a penalty won by Osimhen, who was brought down inside the box.
Speaking during halftime, Riccardo Calafiori noted that Osimhen gave him a tough time although he prevented the striker from finding the net.
He told DAZN via Napoli Magazine: "We are playing a very good match, we have to stay like this and I also have to maintain concentration against Osimhen who is really annoying."
This season, Osimhen has scored against eight different clubs n the Serie A namely Frosinone, Sassuolo, Udinese, Lecce, Fiorentina, Cagliari Calcio, Monza and AS Roma.
