Ndidi's goal against his favourite opponent helps Leicester to a 5-0 rout of Aribo's Southampton
Published: April 23, 2024Wilfred Ndidi was on the scoresheet for the second consecutive game, bagging a goal in Leicester City's 5-0 thumping of Southampton on matchday 44 of the English Championship played at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.
Ghana international Issahaku Fatawu opened the scoring in the 25th minute, finishing off Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's pass with a first-time finish.
Ndidi doubled the lead in the 62nd minute with a bullet header after meeting Stephy Mavidi's precise cross - his third career goal against Southampton.
Southampton happen to be Ndidi's favorite opponent, having scored more goals against the Saints than any other club since he turned professional.
Fatawu grabbed the Foxes' third of the night, striking a powerful shot beyond Alex McCarthy to record his second of the night.
James Vardy compounded more misery on the away side, shooting the ball into the bottom right corner from close range in the 79th minute before Fatawu rounded up the scoring, nine minutes before the end of stoppage time.
By grabbing a goal tonight, Ndidi has now equaled his best ever goal tally in a season with six goals scored across all competitions, the same he notched in the 2016/2017 season.
Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was missing from Leicester City's matchday squad for the third straight game while Joe Aribo featured for 83 minutes for Southampton.
