'No one has ever said Chukwueze is poor' - Trevisani urges AC Milan winger to justify his transfer fee
Published: April 19, 2024Respected Italian sports commentator Riccardo Trevisani has stressed that Samuel Chuwkueze is not a bad player but has urged him to start justifying the transfer fee AC Milan paid for his services last summer.
Including bonuses, the former Villarreal star arrived at the Rossoneri in exchange for 28 million euros - a fee seen as excessive for Italian Serie A clubs.
Chukwueze struggled in his first six months as an AC Milan player, so much so that there was talk of the seven-time European champions selling him in the summer to cut their losses.
The 24-year-old has failed to break into the starting lineup, having started thirteen games from a possible forty-six in all competitions, with manager Stefano Pioli opting for United States dazzler Christian Pulisic as his first choice right winger.
AC Milan fans are beginning to see glimpses of Chukwueze's qualities in recent weeks, prompting calls for him to be included in the starting lineup due to his impressive performances since mid-March.
Speaking before the AS Roma versus AC Milan Europa League quarterfinal clash, Trevisani was quoted as saying by Milan News: "No one here has ever said that he is poor, I said that the money they put for him I would have put for Okafor, because he is a very strong player.
"Chukwueze is a good player, but currently he is not worth that money, this I was saying. In the overall picture he played 1300 minutes and scored 3 goals: do you think it's the right season to say that he's worth all that money?
"No, he's not a player who shoots, who has dribbling, who also has shooting. and he has to do a lot more than that to be worth the amount he was paid."
Chukwueze has played a total of twenty nine matches for AC Milan, registering three goals and two assists.
