'Wants to score a lot of goals' - Ex-Arsenal striker Lacazette backs Gift Orban to rediscover his scoring boots
Published: February 27, 2024Former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has expressed his support for Gift Orban who has been the subject of criticism for his attitude since joining Lyon last month.
Orban joined the French giants from KAA Gent in the January transfer window but has not impressed, failing to find the back of the net in all his appearances in the Ligue 1 so far.
The 2023 Super Eagles invitee hasn't been helped by the club's poor form this season as they sit in 10th position on the league table, just six points adrift of a relegation spot.
He put up another abject performance in Lyon's 2-1 win over Metz last weekend and had to be taken off at the start of the second half as former West Ham forward Saïd Benrahma came on in his stead.
This has led to another round of criticism from the French press and Lacazette who is also one of the Nigerian striker's teammates has come out to show his support.
In quotes relayed by Butfootballclub, the French forward said: "I think things are going well for him. He's quite funny in the sense that he says a lot of things in the second degree.
"I think for people who didn't understand him at first, it seemed a little weird, but he has a lot of humor. He is hungry for progress, he wants to help the team and score a lot of goals.
"He has that side in him to progress and help the team move up the standings."
The 21-year-old has made six appearances across all competitions for Lyon and has scored one goal which he bagged in the Coupe de France.
He will be hoping to score in back-to-back games in the competition when they face Strasbourg at the Groupama Stadium tonight.
