Super Eagles' AFCON star Lookman training on his own ahead of AC Milan v Atalanta
Published: February 23, 20242023 Africa Cup of Nations star Ademola Lookman is rated as doubtful to return to action on Sunday night when Atalanta face off with AC Milan at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza - corresponding to the 26th round of matches in the Italian Serie A.
Lookman has returned from Italy after his commitments with the Nigeria national team at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The striker was not called up for Atalanta's home game with Sassuolo last weekend because he is recovering from a minor ankle injury he sustained during the tournament in Ivory Coast.
Reports from Italian newspaper L'Eco di Bergamo, suggest that Lookman's chances of playing against AC Milan are slim, considering he has been undergoing separate training sessions since his return from AFCON duty.
Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta coach, will continue to assess Lookman's fitness and will make a last-minute decision regarding his inclusion in the squad for the Milan trip.
Before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations, Lookman was a key player for Atalanta, contributing to ten goals (7 goals, 3 assists) in eighteen appearances in Serie A.
Should he pass a fitness test, Lookman is expected to start from the bench against AC Milan.
On Friday, Atalanta will undergo an afternoon session, to take place behind closed doors in Zingonia.
