'Doesn't seem like a serious injury' - Napoli coach provides update on physical condition of Osimhen
Published: December 17, 2023Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri has played down fears over the injury suffered by Victor Osimhen during his side's 2-1 win against Cagliari in a Serie A clash on Saturday evening.
The Nigeria international was the star of the show as Napoli returned to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats in the Italian top-flight.
Cagliari were holding Napoli to a goalless draw until the 69th minute when Osimhen broke the deadlock with a trademark header and provided an outrageous assist for the game-winning goal netted by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at minute 75.
The 2023 African Footballer of the Year made way for Gianluca Gaetano in the 82nd minute and it has come to light that the number 9 was replaced due to injury.
The initial prognosis is that Osimhen was substituted because he was suffering from discomfort in his groin.
Speaking a the post-match press conference after the match at the Diego Maradona Stadium, Mazzarri was quoted as saying by Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport: "Osimhen? It doesn't seem like a serious injury to me, it will be a temporary thing."
Napoli will resume training at the SSCN Konami Training Center on Monday ahead of their Coppa Italia clash against Frosinone scheduled for Tuesday at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
