Uzoho silences his critics: Watch brilliant saves by the Omonia GK that earned him MVP honours
Published: December 12, 2023Francis Uzoho was named Omonia Nicosia's Most Valuable Player in their 2-0 win over Nea Salamis Famagusta FC on matchday 14 of the Cypriot First Divison played at the Ammochostos Stadium on Sunday.
The Super Eagles star was asked to fill in for Brazilian goalkeeper Fabiano who was not available for selection owing to injury.
And he rose to the occasion with one of his best performances in an Omonia shirt since his arrival at the club in September 2021.
Uzoho made three important saves to deny Nea Salamis Famagusta from getting on the scoresheet and protect his clean sheet.
In the 57th minute, he blocked a powerful shot from Víctor Fernández and in the 80th minute, he stopped a long-range strike, before making a last-gasp save on the goal line to prevent Fernandez from pulling one back for Nea Salamis in the third minute of stoppage time.
Uzoho's performance was even more impressive when considering the fact that it was his first league start for Omonia Nicosia in 204 days.
With sixty percent of the votes, the Nigeria international was named MVP for the game against Nea Salamis Famagusta.
Omonia Nicosia have posted a video on their official X account highlighting the brilliant saves made by Uzoho during the game.
