Houston Dynamo decline contract option for two Nigerian-born players; ex-Flying Eagles star Aliyu retained
Published: December 05, 2023With a statement on their official website, Major League Soccer club Houston Dynamo have announced their roster decisions following the postseason run to the Western Conference Final.
Decisions have been made on the future of three Nigerian-born players: Enugu-born center forward Ifunanyachi Achara, Ibadan native Mujeeb Murana and 2019 Africa U20 Cup of Nations star with the Flying Eagles Ibrahim Aliyu.
Achara and Murana are heading into the offfseason without a club as Houston Dynamo have declined the 2024 contract options for the players.
While Achara is departing the Orange Crush without a single appearance for the first team. Murana played in two games - both in the US Open Cup - from the eight call-ups he received.
Murana enjoyed playing time with Houston Dynamo 2, playing 45 matches across two seasons and scored two goals while logging 3,930 minutes.
Aliyu is among the eighteen Houston Dynamo players with guaranteed contracts for the 2024 season.
Signed as an U22 initiative player in April 2023 from Croatian top-flight side NK Lokomotiva, the Kano-born winger registered nine goal involvements in 37 appearances over the course of the 2023 season.
