'Won Champions League with Real Madrid and Liverpool'- Boniface raves about Bayer coach Alonso
Published: December 02, 2023Victor Boniface has raved about Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso who is doing a fantastic job for the Werkself this season.
The Nigeria international has also benefited from the Spaniard's tactical brilliance, settling down at the BayArena comfortably.
Under the tutelage of the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, Bayer Leverkusen have had an impeccable start to the season and are unbeaten across all competitions.
They sit atop the Bundesliga standings at the moment, two points clear of perennial champions Bayern Munich and have qualified for the UEFA Europa League knockout stages with a game to spare.
Boniface has heaped praises on the 42-year-old and revealed how he and his teammates have benefited from him.
"He was at the top as a player, winning pretty much everything you can win: Champions League with Real and Liverpool, the World and European Championship titles with Spain," Boniface said to Sportbuzzer via Spox
"And he played under three of the best coaches: José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola. Like these coaches, he is a strategist who understands the game down to the smallest facet.
"But he is also a fighter and always demands 100 per cent from us."
There has been talk already about Alonso leaving Bayer Leverkusen with Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich all reported to be monitoring his situation.
Boniface has been one of the best players for Alonso this season, registering 18 goal involvements across all competitions in eighteen appearances.
His stellar form has attracted the interest of Juventus who see him as a potential replacement for Dušan Vlahović while Napoli have also been linked with him.
