Osawe sees red, Odogu puts in solid shift as Germany lift Fifa U17 World Cup for the first time

Two players of Nigerian descent were on parade at the Stadion Manahan in Surakarta on Saturday afternoon as Germany lifted the Fifa U17 World Cup for the first time in their history after a dramatic shootout victory over France.
VfL Wolfsburg central defender David Odogu put in a solid shift at the heart of Germany U17s defence and joining him in the starting lineup was RB Leipzig defensive midfielder Winners Osawe.
Germany were the better of the two teams in the opening exchanges and their dominance was rewarded at minute 29 when Paris Brunner scored from the penalty spot for his fifth goal of the tournament.
In the fifth minute of first half stoppage time, Osawe was yellow carded for a foul.
Germany captain Noah Darvich didn't miss the opportunity to double his side's advantage from a tight angle in the 51st minute, but the two-goal lead didn't last long as Saïmon Bouabré halved the deficit with a powerful low shot into the bottom corner two minutes later.
Osawe was yellow carded again in the 69th minute for a late challenge on Ismail Bouneb and was consequently shown a red card.
The sending off turned the game on its head as France took control of the game and equalized through Mathis Amougou, who slotted home from close range to send the game to penalties.
Goalkeeper Konstantin Heide was the hero for Germany in the penalty shootout as he saved two France penalties.
