Why Super Eagles left-back Jamilu Collins was omitted from Cardiff City's gameday squad v West Brom
Published: November 29, 2023Super Eagles left-back Jamilu Collins was not called up for Cardiff City's Championship clash against West Brom at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night and his omission from the gameday squad had nothing to do with injury.
Collins has been one of the untouchables in the Cardiff City squad after his recovery from a career threatening injury, having started fourteen out of a possible eighteen league games since the start of the 2023-2024 season.
The Nigeria international was not at the disposal of Bluebirds manager Erol Bulut for the visit of the Baggies due to a suspension, after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the penultimate round of matches against Preston North End.
Perry Ng was deployed in the left-back role to compensate for the absence of Collins.
Collins was also reprimanded in matches against Leicester City, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town.
Last season, the former Paderborn star collected one yellow card in his first four games in the Championship before suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
The record number of yellow cards Collins has collected in a single season is eight, in the 2013-2014, 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 campaigns.
Meanwhile, Collins' international teammate Semi Ajayi was a non-playing substitute for the Baggies.
