Published: November 02, 2023
The English Football Association on Thursday announced the Young Lions roster for the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup with two talented players of Nigerian descent making the cut.
Arsenal starlet Ethan Nwaneri has recovered in time from an undisclosed injury that kept him sidelined since September, paving the way for him to be included in manager Ryan Garry's 21-man squad for the tournament in Indonesia.
2006-born Manchester City forward Justin Oboavwoduo will also be on the plane to Indonesia, having made the squad list.
The 2017 world champions will do battle with New Caledonia(11 November), Iran (14 November) and Brazil (17 November) in Group C of the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup.
Nwaneri has mustered 8 goals in 17 appearances for England U17s while Oboavwoduo has directly participated in seven goals in eleven appearances for the age group.
Germany U17 coach Christian Wück has included two players of Nigerian descent in a 21-man squad announced by the German Federation on Wednesday, November 1.
VfL Wolfsburg defender David Odogu and RB Leipzig defensive midfielder Winners Osawe are part of the group.
Odogu and Osawe were members of the Germany U17 squad that won the 2023 European U17 Championship, which acted as the UEFA qualifiers for the Fifa U17 World Cup.
Germany will face Mexico, New Zealand, and Venezuela in Group F of the World Cup.
