Porto issue injury update on Super Eagles left-back ahead of Vilar de Perdizes clash
Published: October 19, 2023
Porto have provided an injury update on Zaidu Sanusi ahead of tomorrow's Taça de Portugal third round clash against Vilar de Perdizes at the Estádio Eng. Manuel Branco Teixeira in Chaves.
Sanusi has been sidelined for exactly one month after suffering a muscle-related injury during the first half of Porto's Champions League meeting with Shakhtar Donetsk.
The injury saw him miss the Super Eagles' back-to-back internationals against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in Portugal.
Sanusi was also not available for selection in the last four games played by Porto due to the ailment including the glamour match with Barcelona in the Champions League.
The 26-year-old is doubtful to make his return from injury against Vilar de Perdizes as he didn't participate in Porto's final workout on Thursday.
"In the clinical bulletin, Wendell (treatment for inflammation in the left Achilles tendon) and Iván Jaime (treatment for tendonitis in the right adductor) joined Pepe, Iván Marcano, Zaidu, Eustáquio and Gabriel Veron, who also continued undergoing treatment at respective injuries," Porto wrote on their official website.
It is hoped that Sanusi would have fully recovered from the injury before Nigeria's crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November.
The left-back played in four matches for Porto, all of which he started, prior to his spell on the sidelines.
