AC Milan reveal why Chukwueze was not named in Super Eagles matchday squad v Mozambique
Published: October 18, 2023
AC Milan have revealed exactly why Samuel Chukwueze was not named in Nigeria's matchday squad in Monday's friendly against Mozambique.
According to AC Milan's official website, the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner suffered a left hamstring injury while away on international duty, thus ruling him out of his country's match against Mozambique.
Chukwueze played 65 minutes during the Super Eagles' international friendly encounter against Saudi Arabia before he was replaced by Kelechi Iheanacho.
The 24-year-old has not had a brilliant start to life in the Serie A, starting just 2 games so far with his other five appearances coming as a substitute and is yet to register a goal involvement in all competitions for the Rossoneri.
He has been involved in Milan's first two matches in the UEFA Champions League, starting against Newcastle United and came off the bench in another goalless draw with Borussia Dortmund.
Chukwueze will be hoping to get back to full fitness as soon as possible to get his AC Milan career back on track.
His injury will be a cause for concern for Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro ahead of next month's 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
Stefan Pioli's side currently lead the Serie A standings with 21 points garnered after eight match days.
