'Performed less than expected' - Former AC Milan midfielder highlights Chukwueze's struggles at Italian giants
Published: October 08, 2023Former AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo is optimistic about Samuel Chukwueze improving under Stefano Pioli.
The Super Eagles winger has failed to hit the ground running since his arrival at AC Milan, starting just 3 games from a possible ten in all competitions so far this campaign.
The 24-year-old has not looked like a player who hit double figures for goals and assists last season, recording no goal involvement in all of his 9 appearances so far for the Rossoneri.
He had to be hauled off at halftime in AC Milan's hard-fought victory over Genoa yesterday on matchday 8 of the Serie A.
Montolivo while reacting to the right winger's performance against Genoa admitted that he was poor yet again but believes Pioli will work on his improvement.
"Chukwueze had less impact. He performed less than expected but Pioli will work on it," Montolivo told DAZN via Milan News.
Former Chelsea forward, Christian Pulisic has been preferred by Pioli over the Nigeria international and has justified that thus far, registering four goals and 1 assist in 10 appearances.
Chukwueze will have to step up as soon as possible so as to earn a place in the starting XI.
