Osimhen's new deal: Ex-Napoli coach admits N8.5b in wages a year would be a lot for Serie A player 

Former Napoli manager Alberto Bigon reckons that 10 million euros in wages per year (approximately N8.5 billion in Nigerian currency) would be a lot of money for a Serie A player, Victor Osimhen in particular. 

With the Saudi Arabian summer transfer window closing for business on Thursday, September 7, the Nigeria international is set to remain a player of Napoli until at least January 2024.

In the recently concluded transfer window, Osimhen was linked with possible moves to Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, but the quartet were all priced out of a deal and went for other targets.

Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al Hilal also pushed to sign the Nigerian but Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis fended off their interest by making an astronomical demand. 

Napoli are in talks with Osimhen over a contract extension and it is claimed that he stands to earn around 10 million euros per season if terms can be agreed. 

The 24-year-old had a banner 2022-2023 season with his goals helping the Naples club claim the Serie A title for the first time in thirty three years and he was recently nominated for the Ballon d'Or.

"I have no perplexity about the fact that he repeats himself, he is a very particular footballer with enormous skills." Bigon said to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Tuttomercatoweb.com.

"He combines physical and technical characteristics in a unique way. Is it worth a salary of 10 million euros a year? Let's not talk about money, I've never been good at it.

"Of course, in Italy it has one value, in England another and in Saudi Arabia yet another. That would be a lot for a Serie A player, but if he doesn't take them...".

Top scorer in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying with seven goals, Osimhen is on Super Eagles duty in Uyo ahead of Sunday's dead rubber tie against São Tomé and Príncipe.
