Osimhen close to reaching an agreement with Napoli over contract extension
Published: July 28, 2023Victor Osimhen is close to reaching an agreement with Napoli over his contract extension.
According to Sky Sport Italia both the striker and the Italian Champions are on the verge of agreeing on terms of the new contract and are working on the final details.
This is premised on the result of a meeting held between Osimhen, his representative, Roberto Calenda and Napoli last week and it is said that the new deal should be formalized at the next meeting between them.
As per the report, they are also set to reach a compromise on the release clause to be inserted in the new contract which will be less than the 200 million euros being proposed by the Italian outfit but close to 150 million euros.
The discussion between the Super Eagles striker and the reigning Serie A champions has dragged on for weeks owing to the disagreement regarding details of the new contract, particularly the release clause and the salary to be received by the forward.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis hopes to extend the contract of Osimhen from 2025 which is the year his current contract expires to 2027, including a bogus release clause in his new deal to keep him away from suitors.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and PSG have been linked with Osimhen but everything indicates that he is likely to stay put at the Diego Maradona Stadium for the forthcoming season.
