Chukwueze picks up where he left off last season but Villarreal are taught a lesson by St. Gallen
Published: July 16, 2023
Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze showcased his goal-scoring prowess as he found the back of the net for Villarreal, despite their disappointing 6-1 defeat to Swiss club St. Gallen in a pre-season friendly clash on Saturday.
The match marked Villarreal's first outing of the pre-season as they gear up for the upcoming campaign.
Chukwueze displayed his attacking prowess in the 30th minute, narrowing the scoreline to 2-1 in favor of St. Gallen.
However, the opposition responded emphatically, netting four more goals to secure an impressive victory.
Eager to rebound from their heavy loss, Villarreal will look to regain their footing in an upcoming friendly against Austrian side SCR Altach on Tuesday, July 18.
The Yellow Submarine have lined up several more pre-season matches against formidable opponents such as Hannover, Feyenoord, Sporting Lisbon, Nice, and Newcastle United.
Villarreal's highly anticipated LaLiga season will kick off with a home fixture against Real Betis on July 13.
The Spanish outfit will seek to build upon their successes from the previous season, during which Chukwueze showcased his abilities by bagging 24 goal involvements in 50 games across all competitions.
Although the pre-season defeat was undoubtedly a setback, Villarreal remain determined to refine their performance and make a strong statement in the forthcoming campaign.
The team's fans will be eagerly awaiting their response in the upcoming friendlies and the subsequent LaLiga opener.
