Confirmed: Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper extends contract with SC Freiburg
Published: July 14, 2023
Through their official website, German Bundesliga side SC Freiburg have confirmed that Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has extended his contract with the club.
The duration and financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed by the Europa-Park Stadion outfit.
It is believed that Atubolu putting pen to paper on a new contract has ended speculation about his future amid reports strongly linking him with a transfer to Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht.
The Germany U21 international of Nigerian descent made his first team debut for Freiburg in a DFB-Pokal tie with FC St. Pauli in October 2022.
Atubolu was also in goal against Qarabag in the Europa League and the DFB-Pokal last 16 game against SV Sandhausen last season.
He joined Freiburg from Sportfreunde Eintracht Freiburg in 2015, rising through the youth team ranks before he became first choice goalkeeper for the U23s.
Reacting to his contract extension, Atubolu stated: "I am a Freiburg lad through and through and have already experienced a lot with the club.
"There was always a clear plan, and I am pleased that there is more to come. I am looking forward to it."
For the forthcoming season, it is envisaged that Atubolu will likely have more first team chances following the transfer of Dutchman Mark Flekken to Premier League side Brentford in the offseason.
