Celtic insider expresses concern about the future of 2019 Nigeria U23 invitee at The Hoops
Published: July 14, 2023Writing for The Celtic Way, Celtic insider James Dailey has expressed concern about the future of 20199 Nigeria U23 invitee Osaze Urhoghide at the Hoops.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Urhoghide joined the Scottish champions in 2021 from Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
The 23-year-old defender since joining Celtic has yet to make his debut in the Scottish Premiership and has enjoyed back-to-back loan spells at KV Oostende, who were relegated to the Belgian second-tier at the end of the 2022-2023 season.
Urhoghide returned to Celtic Park ahead of the start of the new campaign with the hope of getting a chance in the squad under new manager, Brendan Rodgers.
However, his chances of getting a chance under the former Leicester City manager have been in doubt according to the opinion of James Dailey, which was expressed in an article on The Celtic Way.
Being skeptical about the chances of Urhoghide getting into the plans of Rodger's next campaign, Dailey said his contract situation could be an obstacle for him.
He, however, predicted that the young defender might be loaned to out this campaign.
"Count me as being skeptical that Urhoghide's profile will translate into being a regular part of Rodgers' player rotation," Daily said.
"If Wyscout's listing of two years remaining on his contract is accurate, then this summer may be the time to move the player on, or else my guess is another season on loan may be in store."
Urhoghide's only appearance for Celtic came in a dead rubber Europa League clash against Real Betis in December 2021.
Overall, he has received eighteen call ups for first team games, comprising ten in the Europa League and UEL qualifiers, two in Champions League qualifiers, and three apiece in the Premiership and League Cup.
