Watford centre-back Ekong to earn N828m annual wage at Greek club PAOK
Published: July 02, 2023
William Troost-Ekong's transfer to PAOK is imminent, with the Greek Super League club and Watford reaching a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of the Nigeria international.
According to gazzetta.gr, Watford will receive approximately one million euros for agreeing to shred their contract with the Super Eagles assistant captain two years before its expiration.
The Tottenham Hotspur academy product will earn close to one million euros (equated to N828million in Nigerian currency) every year at the three-time Greek champions.
Subject to Troost-Ekong passing a traditional medical, the central defender will put pen to paper on a three-year contract, meaning he is set to pocket approximately N2.5billion over the duration of his contract at PAOK.
The 29-year-old is expected to travel to Thessaloniki in the coming says to undergo a medical before his unveiling.
Troost-Ekong spent last season on loan at Salernitana but the Italian Serie A club passed up the opportunity to sign him on a full deal having struggled for game time and a knee injury.
He is a globetrotter in football terms with spells in England, Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, Belgium and Italy.
Per the report, PAOK manager Razvan Lucescu wanted the club to sign a right-footed central defender with the ability to play it out from the back and experienced Nigeria national teamer Troost-Ekong was first choice.
Speculation that Troost-Ekong is poised to depart Watford surfaced on Friday when Sky Sport Italia linked him with Panathinaikos, Verona and Genoa.
