Spain looking to provisionally cap-tie Nigeria-eligible striker who scored 18 goals last season

It is all but confirmed that the Royal Spanish Football Federation will provisionally cap-tie Samuel Omorodion in the coming days, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Having convinced the Granada center forward to pledge his international future at youth level to Spain, Spain U19 manager José Lana has included Omorodion in his final 20-man squad for the 2023 UEFA European Under-19 Championship which begins in Malta on Monday, July 3.

Omorodion is also eligible to represent the Flying Eagles of Nigeria through his parents but the Spaniards are ahead of their African rivals for his services.

Born in  Melilla, an autonomous city of Spain in North Africa, Omorodion made his debut for Spain U19s in a friendly against Mauritania U20 national team in May 2 and two days later, scored his first goal for the age group in another friendly against the same opponents.

Spain will do battle with Iceland, Greece and Norway in Group B of the 2023 European U-19 Championship.

If Omorodion were to appear for Spain in any match at the tournament, then he would become provisionally cap-tied to his 'country of birth'.

Spain U19s coach Lana added the Spanish-Nigerian to his squad after a breakout season that saw him score 18 goals in 33 appearances for Recreativo Granada in the Segunda Federación.
