'Keen to play for a big club in Europe or PL' - Villarreal CEO on Chukwueze's future
Published: June 20, 2023
Villarreal CEO Roig Negueroles has revealed that Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze is keen to play for a big club in Europe or the Premier League.
Chukwueze has one year left on his contract and has been linked with a move away from the Yellow Submarine in the summer.
AC Milan have been mentioned as a possible destination for the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner, but nothing is concrete at the moment.
Negueroles admitted that the Nigeria winger, who has snubbed overtures to extend his contract, will be sold in the summer transfer window if a suitable comes in.
"Samu is an extraordinary boy who has been with us for many years. It is true that he is keen to play for a big club in Europe or in the Premier League, and we have always worked hand in hand to improve him, and if this option came up, we would sit down and negotiate it," Negueroles said to Spanish sports daily AS.
"But it will be necessary to see if any beneficial offer arrives for the three parts. In this case, no offer has yet arrived, and he has one more year on his contract.
"What we are clear about is that if something very good doesn't come along, he will continue."
The right winger enjoyed his most fruitful campaign with the Yellow Submarine in the just-concluded campaign, registering 13 goals and eleven assists in all competitions.
The 24-year-old's brilliant performance in Villarreal's shocking 3-2 win against Real Madrid where he scored two goals was the best highlight of his season.
Chukwueze has made 207 appearances in all competitions, notching 37 goals and thirty-one assists since joining the first team of the Spanish side.
