Ikoba reacts to reports linking him with summer move to Glasgow Celtic
Published: May 23, 2023American-born Nigerian attacker Eduvie Ikoba has reacted to reports in the media linking him with a summer move to Scottish Premiership powerhouse Glasgow Celtic.
Ikoba is bound to attract interest from top European clubs ahead of the reopening of the transfer window on the back of his outstanding season at Zalaegerszegi TE FC, with whom he won the Hungarian Cup on May 3, 2023.
The 25-year-old has mustered thirteen goals in 33 all-competition appearances for Zalaegerszegi TE FC while producing two assists.
Ikoba has admitted that he would be open to joining a top European club but at the same time stressed that he's committed to his current employers Zalaegerszegi TE FC, where he's under contract until June 30, 2025.
Asked to reveal the truth about rumours linking him with Celtic and whether he would like to represent the Scottish champions, Ikoba told allnigeriasoccer.com: "I haven’t really been focused on any of the transfer rumors because nothing is guaranteed until a contract is signed.
"If the right opportunity arises, I would definitely take time to consider it of course!"
Quizzed on his dream club, he replied: "I don’t have a dream club, or even league. My main goal is to play at the highest level possible, wherever that may be.
"At the moment I’m a player of ZTE FC in Hungary, so my focus is on preparing for the next season. If an opportunity comes in the summer, I’ll have to discuss with the club and see what they say."
Ikoba is pleased with his form and agrees that the 2022-2023 campaign has been his best season so far since turning professional.
"The biggest difference between this season and previous has been my mentality. I’ve always had my own strengths and individual qualities, and they have improved over the years I’ve been professional.
"But being able to stay focused and hard working has been one of my biggest strengths.
"There are a lot of ups and downs as a footballer, so learning how to deal with them has made me more consistent and allowed better performances to come," he added.
Ikoba returned for a second spell at Zalaegerszegi TE FC last summer after previously wearing the colours of AS Trencin, Black Rock and Dartmouth Big Green.
