'Boniface can score at any time' - RUSG legend backs Nigerian to shine v Bayer Leverkusen
Published: April 20, 2023Danny Ost, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise's record appearance maker in history, is backing Nigerian striker Victor Boniface to shine in tonight's Europa League quarterfinal second leg clash against Bayer Leverkusen at Anderlecht Stadium-Brussels.
Manager Karel Geraert has revealed his team news with Boniface starting in the left-wing position in a 4-3-3 formation.
The Belgian Pro League side were held to a 1-1 draw by the Germans in the first leg a week ago, and reaching the semifinals would be one of the biggest achievements in their history.
Boniface is one player the Bayer Leverkusen defenders must keep close tabs on as they aim to make it to the last four of the Europa League.
When the former Bodo/Gimt striker found the net in the first leg, he became tied with Manchester United star Marcus Rashford as the top scorers in the Europa League with six goals.
Boniface will be fresh heading into the game as he was given a much needed rest last weekend against RFC Seraing, playing the last three minutes of a 2-1 home win.
Speaking about Royale Union Saint-Gilloise's chances against Bayer Leverkusen, Ost told UEFA's official website : "It will be a difficult game. Leverkusen are solid at the back and fast up front.
"Concentration and mentality will be important, and efficiency in front of goal.
"Top scorer Boniface can score at any time and captain Teuma is the true leader. They can make the difference."
Royale Union Saint-Gilloise are unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions and have only lost once in this season's Europa League.
