ESM Golden Shoe rankings : Osimhen third behind Man City and Tottenham strikers
Published: April 11, 2023Despite missing the last two Serie A matches played by Napoli, Victor Osimhen is still in the race for the European Golden Shoe, awarded by the European Sports Media to the top scorer in Europe's domestic leagues.
Osimhen wasn't available for selection against AC Milan and Lecce due to the injury he picked up while on international duty with the Super Eagles late last month.
The 24-year-old has not been called up for Napoli's Champions League quarterfinal first leg clash against AC Milan tomorrow as he's still recovering from a tear in the abductor muscle.
Osimhen has scored 21 goals in the Serie A, notching up 42 points, and is third in the latest ESM Golden Shoe rankings.
Manchester City's Norwegian goal machine Erling Braut Haaland currently tops the rankings with 30 goals (60 points), while Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane has garnered 46 points having mustered 23 goals in the Premier League,
In fourth place with 26 goals is Fenerbahce's Enner Valencia, while there is a two-way tie for fifth place as both Lille's Jonathan David and PSG's Kylian Mbappe have nineteen goals apiece in the French Ligue 1.
If two or more players score the same number of goals, the Golden Shoe is awarded to the player with the fewest minutes.
No Nigerian player has won the Golden Shoe since the inception of the award in 1968.
