Osimhen watches Napoli suffer biggest loss of the season from the stands
Published: April 03, 2023Victor Osimhen was in attendance at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Sunday as Napoli were humiliated 4-0 by defending champions AC Milan - their biggest loss of the 2022-2023 season in all competitions.
The Napoli number 9 wasn't called up by manager Luciano Spalletti as he's recovering from a tear in the abductor muscle suffered while on international duty with the Super Eagles late last month.
Osimhen cheered on his teammates from the stands but the Blues struggled without the influential striker, who is the leading marksman in the division with 21 goals.
At the moment, the Nigeria international is rated as doubtful to make his return against Lecce this coming Friday but Napoli medics are hoping to get him into shape before their crucial Champions League meeting with AC Milan at the San Siro on April 12.
Last season's Most Valuable Player Rafael Leão with a delicate chip over the goalkeeper opened the scoring for the Rossoneri, and the visitors doubled their advantage as the provider of the first goal, Brahim Díaz, scored the second.
At minute 59, Leão made it 3-0 with a stunning left-footed shot from inside the box, before Alexis Saelemaekers wrapped up the scoring eight minutes later.
Although Milan reminded everyone that they are the reigning Italian champions with a statement win against Napoli,
Stefano Pioli's side are 20 points behind the Naples outfit in the Serie A.
