Osimhen matches Cavani, Higuaín and Mertens feat after brace against Torino
Published: March 19, 2023Victor Osimhen bagged a brace in Napoli's 4-0 win over Torino. Osimhen has now equalled Samuel Eto'o's record for the most goals scored by an African in a season in the Serie A
Osimhen didn't waste time hitting the ground running when he gave Napoli the lead in the 9th minute.
The Nigerian striker nodded the ball home expertly from Piotr Zielinski's corner to register his 20th league goal of the season.
According to the statisticians at OPTA, with Osimhen's opener against Torino, he becam the fourth Napoli's player in the De Laurentiis era to have scored 20-plus goals in a single Serie A campaign, after Cavani, Higuaín and Mertens.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, doubled Napoli's lead in the 35th minute from the penalty spot which allowed the table-toppers to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Six minutes into the second half, Osimhen got his brace and his 21st of the season through a header after he connected from a well-crafted cross from Mathias Olivera.
Substitute,Tanguy Ndombélé got the fourth goal of the afternoon in the 68th minute.
Osimhen came off in the 72nd minute when he got substituted for Giovanni Simeone.
On the other hand, Ola Aina came on for Torino in the 75th minute for Wilfried Singo but couldn't do anything to stop the already-done damage.
