Dutch pundit Pieter Zwart has claimed that Nigeria international Calvin Bassey would be an ideal player for Premier League side Everton.
Eyebrows were raised when Bassey broke the Nigerian transfer record for a defender following his move to Ajax Amsterdam last summer for a transfer fee of 23 million euros which could rise to 26.5 million euros with performance-related bonuses included.
The transfer materialized after he played 65 games as a professional in the colours of Glasgow Rangers.
Bassey's performances in the first half of the season kept him out of the starting lineup following the appointment of Johnny Heitinga as manager, before the visit of NEC Nijmegen this past weekend.
Zwart has doubts about that the Nigeria international making the grade at Ajax and has predicted that the Amsterdam club will be looking to sell him to a Premier League club for a huge fee in the future because he is a homegrown player.
The 23-year-old was linked with many Premier League clubs before opting to join Ajax Amsterdam.
"I keep my doubts. I think he will never really become a great success, but that Ajax will earn money from him," Zwart wrote on Voetbal International, via MSN.
"For the playing style of a club like Everton, he is a perfect defender. He is also considered to have been trained in England, so as Ajax you are going to grab money for him."
Baasey has made 33 appearances for Ajax in all competitions since his move from Rangers and has directly participated in six goals.
