'He's a powerful, impact player' - Monaco coach admits knowing Super Eagles striker for a long time
Published: January 11, 2023Speaking at the pre-match press conference before his side's Ligue 1 meeting with Lorient, Monaco manager Philippe Clement highlighted the qualities of Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi.
Clement has known about the Lorient star even before he was appointed Monaco coach in January 2022.
The retired Belgium international previously coached Club Brugge, where he worked with young Nigerian players Emmanuel Dennis, David Okereke, Antonio Nusa and Owen Otasowie.
Former KV Kortrijk marksman Moffi scored against a Club Brugge side managed by Clement in a Belgian Pro League game in January 2020.
The Nigeria international has been the standout player in the Lorient squad fighting for a European spot with ten goals in sixteen appearances in the Ligue 1 so far this season.
"AS Monaco have not won their last three games against Lorient. It is a competitor in European places, " Clement told reporters.
"A well-organized team, capable of making quick transitions with their three attackers, like Terem Moffi, whom I have known for a long time because he played for Kortrijk in Belgium. He is a powerful, impact player."
Monaco are Moffi's favorite opponent in the French topflight, having netted four goals against them, more than against any other side since landing at Lorient from Kortrijk.
