Samuel Chukwueze was on target as Villarreal defeated Valencia 2-1 in the Derbi de la Comunitat on Saturday at the official opening of the remodeled Estadio de la Cerámica.
The Nigeria national teamer has forced his way into the starting lineup of the Yellow Submarine since Quique Setién took over the managerial reins from Unai Emery, starting five consecutive matches in La Liga.
Former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani opened the scoring in the 21st minute as he fired home after a rebound fell to him in the area.
But Villarreal managed to equalize just before the interval through Chukwueze, who finished off a brilliant counter-attack, assisted by Gerard.
The Super Eagles winger made way for Morales in the 72nd minutes and sixteen minutes later Villarreal were able to claim all three points as 2022 World Cup winner Juan Foyth powered in a header past Valencia goalkeeper Mamardashvili.
With his strike against Valencia, Chukwueze has now scored in three different competitions this season including La Liga, UEFA Europa Conference League and Copa del Rey, and has a goal involvement of twelve (6 goals, 6 assists) in 23 all-competition appearances.
In the provisional standings, Villarreal are seventh with 24 points accumulated from fifteen matches.
