SPFL Trust Trophy : Irish-Nigerian defensive midfielder on target for Celtic

Glasgow Celtic B advanced into the third round of the SPFL Trust Trophy with a convincing 3-0 win over Livingston in Airdrie on Wednesday evening.

Two players of Nigerian descent in goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi and defensive midfielder Bosun Lawal, who is a Republic of Ireland youth teamer, went the distance for the Bhoys.

Adam Brooks gave Celtic the lead in the nineteenth minute when he smashed home inside the area.

Three minutes to the end of the first half, Tobi, younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Joshua Oluwayemi, made a brilliant save to deny Hickey-Fuggacia who had raced through on goal.

In the 49th minute, Lawal tapped in at the back post to double the advantage after a well-worked corner routine and Celtic got the third goal through substitute Quinn with two minutes left on the clock.

Lawal and Oluwayemi, who are both nineteen years, were promoted to first team training during Celtic's preparations for the 2022-2023 campaign.

Celtic snapped up Lawal from Watford last summer and Oluwayemi has played nonstop at the club after transferring from Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.
