The reason Anglo-Nigerian winger was omitted from Man Utd's Tour squad
Published: July 09, 2022
Shola Shoretire was surprisingly omitted from Manchester United's traveling squad to Bangkok on Friday, July 8.
The England U19 international of Nigerian descent was heavily tipped to be named in the Tour 2022 squad considering that he had trained with the first team since the start of pre-season preparations at the Carrington Training Ground.
However, it appears that the Red Devils higher-ups made a decision on his future before the squad jetted out to Asia.
BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone has informed that first team boss Erik ten Hag opted to omit Shoretire from the roster because a temporary departure from Old Trafford is on the cards as he is attracting interest from clubs who want him on loan.
Aside from Cristiano Ronaldo, Phil Jones absent from @ManUtd 31-man tour squad as is following own pre-season programme. Brandon Williams has ‘small issue’. Lots of youngsters but not Shola Shoretire and Alvaro Fernandez due to loan interest in them.

Thirteen products of the Manchester United Academy including Alejandro Garnacho, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage were on the plane, while Tahith Chong, James Garner and Ethan Laird who have returned from loan spells were in the group.
Shoretire has played nonstop at Manchester United since the age of nine, rising through the ranks before making his professional debut against Newcastle United on February 21, 2021, few weeks after signing his first professional contract.
The 18-year-old was a key member of Manchester United youth teams in 2021-2022, ending the campaign with 18 goal involvements (8 goals, 10 assists) from twenty eight appearances in all competitions.
