Ex-Nigeria coach Oliseh tells Super Eagles how to play to beat Egypt; backs Eguavoen
Former Nigeria manager Sunday Oliseh has given the Super Eagles players an expository on how to play if they intend to beat Egypt in their opening game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning midfielder, two-time World Cupper and 1996 Olympics gold medalist has stressed that the Super Eagles should play the Nigerian way which is based on physicality and pace.

Nigerians are blessed with physical players in the current squad such as Kenneth Omeruo, Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo and Taiwo Awoniyi, while the likes of Zaidu Sanusi, Ola Aina and Henry Onyekuru have pace to burn.

"If you want to win we have to play the Nigerian football. What is Nigerian football? It is aggressive and full of pace, that's what we have to play," Oliseh said.

Oliseh is backing his former teammate Augustine Eguavoen to do well in Cameroon and get the job on a permanent basis.

The former Ajax Amsterdam and Juventus star could not hide his anger when asked his opinion on the appointment of Jose Peseiro as the substantive coach of the national team.

"Why the fanatical craze to always want to employ a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, that is the thing I still can't get my head around.

"Is it telling all Nigerian coaches and Nigerian people they are not capable of coaching the Super Eagles.

"I am even tempted to call it loss of ideas to always want to take a foreign coach. We always take coaches nobody knows before thy come to Nigeria.

"I'm looking forward to Austin Eguavoen perform, I'm very optimistic for the man, I'm in total support of his being there. In fact I hope he can do well and can continue with the job after the tournament no matter what has been said before."

The Super Eagles will open their AFCON campaign against Egypt this evening in Garoua and also have to play Guinea-Bissau and Sudan in Group D.
