How Super Eagles lined up training: Three former Gunners and two ex-Chelsea stars same team
Published: January 05, 2022
On Tuesday evening, the Super Eagles held their penultimate workout on Nigerian soil ahead of their trip to Cameroon for the 2021 Africa cup of Nations, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Twenty three players were in attendance at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja including the nine that reported for international duty yesterday.
Contrary to speculation that Chidozie Awaziem was nursing a hamstring injury, the Alanyaspor center back trained without any problems, suggesting that he was only undergoing special drills in the training session held on Monday.
After an initial physical session of stretching exercises, interim manager Augustine Eguavoen organized a training game between Team A and Team B with all the players in camp taking part.
The strongest looking team on paper contained three former Arsenal players in the shape of Kelechi Nwakali, Alex Iwobi and Semi Ajayi and joining the trio in the eleven were ex-Chelsea stars Kenneth Omeruo and Ola Aina, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, William Troost-Ekong, Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Francis Uzoho, Olisa Ndah, Awaziem, Zaidu Sanusi, Chidera Ejuke, Henry Onyekuru, Moses Simon, Peter Olayinka, Taiwo Awoniyi, Sadiq Umar made up the second team wearing red bibs.
Due to the second team having ten players, assistant coach Joseph Yobo was asked to join the team.
Goalkeepers Daniel Akpeyi and John Noble took turns to replace Okoye and Uzoho in goal.
