Thomas Tuchel runs the rule over 18-year-old Nigeria-eligible striker pre-Brentford
Published: December 22, 2021
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel promoted Nigeria-eligible center forward Bryan Fiabema to first team training ahead of his side's Carabao Cup quarterfinal clash against Frank Onyeka's Brentford on Wednesday night.
According to reports in the English press including Football.London, Fiabema was one of the eleven teenagers called up to train with the first team this week, the others being Sharman-Lowe, Xavier Mbuyamba, Harvey Vale, Josh Brooking, Alfie Gilchrist, Dion Rankine, Xavier Simons, Lewis Hall, Joe Haigh and Jay Wareham.
Tuchel invited Fiabema and the other academy stars to train with the first team in the light of Chelsea dealing with six Covid-related absences, while Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah are both rated as doubtful for the trip to the Brentford Community Stadium.
The Norwegian-Nigerian has a remote chance of being included in Chelsea's matchday squad with attack-minded trio Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi currently self-isolating after testing positive for the virus.
Fiabema was the youngest player of Nigerian descent to debut in the Norwegian Tippeligaen when he made his league debut for Tromso against FK Haugesund, before the record was broken by former Stabæk winger Antonio Musa (16 years and 43 days) in May 2021.

He has been a reliable goalscorer for Chelsea's youth teams this season, scoring 8 goals in 16 matches including three in the UEFA Youth League.
