Ndidi on target after giving away penalty as Leicester go top in Group C with win vs Legia
Published: November 25, 2021
Leicester City have climbed to the summit of the Europa League Group C standings after a 3-1 win over Polish champions Legia Warsaw at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night with all the goals netted in an eventful first half.
There were starts for Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman, while Kelechi Iheanacho hopped off the bench to replace Patson Daka with five minutes to go.
The Zambia star gave the Foxes a dream start, prodding beyond goalkeeper Cezary Miszta from close range in the eleventh minute to open the scoring.
A fine finish from James Maddison after he was fed by Lookman made it two midway through the first half.
A penalty was awarded in the 26th minute after a header from Söyüncü struck Ndidi's hand, and Mladenović converted the rebound after Schmeichel saved Emreli's kick.
Ndidi atoned for giving away a penalty by restoring Leicester City's two-goal lead in the 33rd minute when he powered home a header after a fine delivery from Maddison.
Leicester City had already done the damage in the first half and didn't take any undue risks in the second stanza.
The Premier League side go to Italy on matchday six and know that they can advance to the last sixteen of the Europa League by beating Napoli.
