Nigeria 1 Cape Verde 1 : Osimhen strikes to help Super Eagles into WCQ playoffs

Nigeria booked a place in the playoff stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following a dour 1-1 draw against Cape Verde in the final group game of the qualification at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Tuesday evening.
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock with a close range strike in the first minute but five minutes later,
Ianique dos Santos Tavares equalized from a corner kick.
The Super Eagles had several scoring chances in the first half but did not convert of any of them.
The guests were more purposeful in the second stanza while the Nigerians failed to enact same performance seen in the previous half.
The Eagles now go into the draws for the playoffs in March 2022 for a place in the 2022 World Cup.

Osimhen bore through on goal as the game petered away but his effort to redouble the lead did not come to fruition as the Cape Verdean defence cleared the ball.
Nigeria finished top of Group C with thirteen points, two more than second-placed Cape Verde, followed by Liberia on six points and the Central African Republic were last with four points.
