The Austria Football Association have cap-tied Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Chukwubuike Adamu.
Wearing the number 23 on the back of his jersey, Adamu made his competitive debut for Austria's senior national team in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Israel on Friday, November 12, aged 20 years and 159 days.
Adamu entered the game as a substitute in the 89th minute, replacing Bologna center forward Marko Arnautović .
The 20-year-old cannot request for a change of association to Nigeria should he play three more matches for the Austrians before turning 21.
Born in Kano, a state in Northern Nigeria, the striker previously earned caps for Austria at U18, U19 and U21 levels prior to his senior debut.
Adamu was one of three players of Nigerian parentage picked by manager Franco Foda in Austria's matchday 23 against Israel, the others being Real Madrid star David Alaba and Mainz 05 striker Karim Onisiwo.
He received his first call-up to Austria's senior team following a fine start to the 2021-2022 campaign, scoring four goals after his promotion to Red Bull Salzburg's first team.
