Every word said by Iheanacho on preparations for Liberia, long-range shots, return of Ighalo
Published: November 12, 2021
Kelechi Iheanacho made out time to speak to the Super Eagles Media Team on the eve of the national team's crucial 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Liberia.
It was the Leicester City striker that inspired Nigeria to a 2-0 win over Liberia in the opening round of matches of the qualifiers, netting two first half goals.
The Super Eagles are two points ahead of nearest Group C challengers Cape Verde but they have no margin for error as they could be overtaken by the Blue Sharks should they falter against the Lone Stars on Saturday.
Iheanacho spoke about preparations for the clash against Liberia, shooting practice sessions, and the return of former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo to the Super Eagles.
Allngeriasoccer.com has collated every word he told Super Eagles Media Officer, Babafemi Raji for you to read below :
Kelechi Iheanacho Saturday is the D-Day. How set are you for the game against Liberia?
"Personally I am ready, we're working really hard in training and we are focused on the work ahead.
"Personally I am fit, collectively as a team I think we are ready as well. so we are prepatring really hard so I think we are ready for this game. "
Talking about preparations, you have been doing a lot of shooting over and over again. Are we expecting those long-range shots?
"Hopefully it will come, obviously we are doing a lot of shooting because we want to shoot sometimes, to get shots on target, and to have a chance to score. If you don't shoot you don't score. We are preparing really hard so hopefully we get chances to shoot and score goals that we need."
Odion Ighalo is back in the team, what do you think about it?
"He's a top man, he is a legend, he's done very well for the national team and we are happy to have him back.
"He is like a big brother to all of us, hopefully he'll be a part of this squad and he will help us achieve our goals."
