Nigeria handed boost ahead of WCQ as Alanyaspor defender returns to matchday squad
Published: October 31, 2021
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr will name his roster for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifying matches against Liberia and Cape Verde this week and there is a player back in contention to be in the traveling party to Morocco.
Thirteen days after his last game for Alanyaspor, Chidozie Awaziem was included in a matchday squad against Goztepe on Sunday afternoon.
Although the Boavista loanee was an unused substitute, it is believed his injury problems are behind him following his inclusion in the squad.
The last time Awaziem played for Alanyaspor was against Kayserispor on October 18 before he received the green light from the medical team to resume full training.
The former Porto youth teamer is currently fourth choice in Rohr's pecking order of center backs, behind William Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun and Kenneth Omeruo.
The Franco-German has received more positive news on the injury front ahead of his squad announcement, with Wilfred Ndidi back in full training, Kevin Akpoguma back in action after a knock, and Victor Osimhen's injury not as serious as we were initially led to believe.
