'They wanted to manage him' - Nwakaeme opens can of worms on brother's Super Eagles snub
Published: October 31, 2021
Dickson Nwakaeme, the elder brother of Anthony Nwakaeme, has opened a can of worms on the continued snub of the Trabzonspor winger by Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr.
With a goal involvement of 69 (38 goals, 31 assists) across three years since joining Trabzonspor from Hapoel Beer Sheva, Anthony Nwakaeme has been one of the most consistent Nigerian performers in Europe in recent seasons.
Despite his outstanding performances at club level, the 32-year-old has not been called up to the national team since making his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Algeria in November 2017 and that cap was later wiped off because the Super Eagles fielded an ineligible player.
Dickson Nwakaeme says his brother is being victimized because he refused to sign a contract with an agent with very close ties to Super Eagles coach Rohr.
On why his brother is constantly overlooked by Rohr, Nwakaeme told our colleagues EaglesTracker. : "He got one chance, did not play in his favorite position. He played as a striker.
"I watched the game, nobody was good, it was bad but that's not the problem. I think that was even a trap for him so they can have excuse for not calling him.
"I heard people say he's old I laugh everyday. Football in Nigeria is big corruption because the last time I remembered I am sure they want to manage him.
"For long now me and my brother don't use managers. If you bring a deal if it's good we sign and share money because I suffered a lot in the hands of managers growing up, they've done more harm than good.
"He said he didn't want, this is not what you will hear from him, he will never speak about this.
"They wanted to manage him he refused so that's the main reason why he didn't go back to that national team."

Allnigeriasoccer.com can independently confirm that Dickson Nwakaeme's reason behind his brother's snub by Rohr is correct.
This website extensively reported the underhand dealings by Rohr before the 2018 World Cup in Russia but the Franco-German coach was defended by Nigerian Federation supremo Amaju Pinnick who claimed that the former Bayern Munich defender's image is untainted.
