Asian clubs monitoring situation of Super Eagles GK, no contract talks with Kaizer Chiefs yet
Published: October 25, 2021
The future of Daniel Akpeyi at South African DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs has been the subject of speculation at home and abroad in recent days.
The experienced Super Eagles goalkeeper will enter the final six months of his contract with the Amakhosi in January.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that no talks have been held between club and player over extending his existing contract, meaning he could be leaving as a free agent in the summer if there are no new developments.
Despite uncertainty over his long-term future at Chiefs, Akpeyi remains committed to the club.
Having said that, Middle East clubs in Asia are monitoring the situation of the Nigeria international and are prepared to swoop for him as from the January transfer window.
At the age of 35, Akpeyi is not getting any younger and a transfer to the Middle East looks appealing to him as he wants to secure his financial future.
The former Warri Wolves and Gabros International glovesman has started the last four matches contested by Kaizer Chiefs in the South African top-flight, posting two shutouts while conceding two goals.
