EFL wrap : Ipswich's Super Eagle brace; Wycombe's Bayo, Fulham and Millwall loanees strike
Published: October 16, 2021
Four players of Nigerian descent headlined by Super Eagles striker Sone Aluko got on the scoresheet for their respective clubs in English Football League matches on Saturday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
In the League One, Sone Aluko's brace was not enough to earn Ipswich Town a victory over Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium, with the visitors coming from behind to earn a share of the spoils.
The former Glasgow Rangers star netted his first in Ipswich's colours ten minutes into the game to give the visitors the lead and grabbed his second nine minutes before half-time.
Aluko capitalized on a slip from Cambridge United goalkeeper and lobbed the ball over the shot-stopper from outside the box for 1-0 before squeezing the ball through a crowd of bodies to double the advantage.
Still in the division, Adebayo Akinfenwa helped Wycombe Wanderers register a 2-0 road win against Doncaster Rovers at Keepmoat Stadium in South Yorkshire.
Seventeen minutes in, the physical striker doubled the advantage when he beat his man to head home.
A division lower, Fulham loanee Sylvester Jasper came off the bench to net his first senior goal as Colchester United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Harrogate Town.
Two minutes from time, the Anglo-Bulgarian-Nigerian winger slotted home to give the U's their first home win of the season.
Elsewhere, Millwall loanee Isaac Olaofe scored the only goal of the game as Sutton United defeated Crawley Town at the People's Pension Stadium.
Six minutes from time, Olaofe looped a header in after Crawley Town failed to clear their lines, taking his tally for the season to two goals in four matches across all competitions.
