2022 WCQ : Rohr rues absence of three Premier League stars and Villarreal's Chukwueze
Published: October 06, 2021
Speaking at a press conference monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com on Wednesday, Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has rued the absence of some of his key players who will not be available for selection in tomorrow's World Cup qualifying match against Central African Republic.
Rohr highlighted that Central African Republic are a good side even though they have just one point from their opening two matches in Group C of qualifying, adding that it won't be easy for the Super Eagles to collect the maximum points in their next two fixtures.
The former Bayern Munich defender revealed that he had to draft in some players for the holding midfield positions with Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi and Watford's Oghenekaro Etebo withdrawing from the roster due to injuries.
On the attacking front, Rohr lamented the absence of Everton winger Alex Iwobi, Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze, Lorient's Terem Moffi and Olympiakos' Henry Onyekuru.
The Super Eagles coach highlighted the strengths of the Central African Republic national team, saying that they are a physical side with five players playing for French clubs, one in Germany and the others playing domestically.
Rohr confirmed that a member of his staff did some opposition scouting in Douala last month when CAR were narrowly beaten by Liberia and the report will come in handy.
